Children's Day
Children’s Day. We packed the bread I’d baked the day before and headed to the Han River.
[Yeouido] There were so many people it was hard, but it was Children’s Day, so we endured. We tried to ride the Han River Bus but failed. There were waaay too many people. While we rested eating bread and snacks with the kids, an old man drew us a picture. It made me so happy. I was grateful. Moved.
[Mangwon] Mangwon had a few less people, so it seemed we could catch the Han River Bus. I talked the kids into going, and, oh no. The Navy was running a Children’s Day event. There was no refusing the kids once they saw the colorful air bounce.
We played well, rested well, and even got to ride the Han River Bus..!
[Yeouido] After about 20 minutes running across the river, we got off and headed home. The second one falls asleep. I slow way down (so it doesn’t rattle), ask the eldest’s permission and decide to head to a cafe (with a Children’s Day promise of a claw machine after).
[Mullae] Arrived at @cafe.lent. It was crowded again today, but my own battery was drained too, so I just stopped and got off. Today another auntie adored the kids, and I was so grateful for the warm welcome. Carrying a grateful, slightly embarrassed heart, we left quickly for the claw machine shop. It was hard. We bombed, but I didn’t regret the money. Out of nowhere, some older sisters visiting from Japan gave our kids dolls. So grateful (they were each holding about 7-8 dolls).
After refueling with a meal, my wife and the kids did one more round at the playground.
17km on the bike alone.
Writing it down, it really was a grateful day.
A string of special gifts handed to us inside the most ordinary things.
